A bay window is three windows joined into one unit that projects out from the wall. The large center window faces straight ahead, and two narrower side windows sit at an angle, usually 30 or 45 degrees. You get more glass, light from three directions and a deeper sill or a little extra floor inside.
In South Florida a bay faces the same storms as every other opening, so ours use laminated impact glass and are installed to the Florida Building Code, including the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone rules in Miami-Dade and Broward. Every bay is custom measured, and we confirm the exact units and layout at your free estimate.
Inside, the bay becomes the spot for a window seat, a breakfast table or a row of plants. Outside, it adds depth to a flat stucco wall.

A bay is built from window types you can already try online: a picture window in the center, casement or single hung on the sides. See them in five frame colors on a South Florida model home with our window visualizer, then bring your favorites to the estimate.
The center is almost always one large fixed picture window. The side windows are where you choose, and they decide how much fresh air the bay lets in.

Bay windows are one of the simplest ways to give a South Florida home more light and more character. The outward projection opens a room to the yard or the street, adds a little usable space and breaks up a flat wall. At Guardian Impact Windows & Roofing we build every bay with impact-rated glass, so the window that makes the room is also ready for hurricane season.
A bay sits out from the wall, so it takes wind and rain from more than one direction. Our impact bay windows use laminated glass that holds together if debris hits it, and Low-E glass options help cut the solar heat that comes through three panes on a sunny afternoon.
Every bay window installation includes the building permit and a final city inspection. In Miami-Dade and Broward, both in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, that means product approvals and installation methods that meet the strictest rules in the state.
Every panel of an impact bay uses laminated glass, and Low-E glass is worth asking about if the bay faces south or west, where three panes take the full afternoon sun. Try frame colors on our window visualizer first, then compare real frame and glass samples at your free estimate. Matching the bay to the other windows on the house keeps the front looking like one design.
If you already have a bay, replacement is usually the simplest path: the old units come out and new impact windows go into the same opening. Box bay windows with square sides and second-floor bays (sometimes called oriel windows) are measured and built the same way. Adding a bay where you now have a flat window is a bigger project, so we look at the opening first and tell you what is possible.

It depends on the size of the bay, the side windows you choose, the glass and whether you are replacing an existing bay or changing the wall. The free in-home estimate is where you get a real price for your opening. Ask about 2.9% APR or 60 months no interest while the sale lasts.
Yes. A bay window replacement swaps the old units for new impact-rated windows in the same opening. It is also a good time to check the seat board and the small roof over the bay for old water damage.
It is possible, but it is a bigger job than a window swap because the wall itself changes and the bay needs its own roof or cap. Tell us what you have in mind at the estimate and we will tell you what your opening and the code allow.
A bay window has three panels: a large center window and two angled sides. A bow window uses four or more windows of similar size set in a gentle curve.
The center is usually a fixed picture window. The sides can be fixed, casement or single hung, depending on how much airflow you want.
Yes. Replacing windows needs a building permit and inspections, and in Miami-Dade and Broward the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone rules apply. We pull the permit, schedule the inspections and close it out for you.
Impact windows plus a wind mitigation inspection can help you qualify for windstorm discounts. Ask your insurance company what they offer.
