One large pane of laminated impact glass, sized to your opening. More view and daylight, no shutters to put up, and nothing that opens, so nothing to wear out.

A picture window is a large fixed window. It does not open, so there is no sash, meeting rail, crank or lock crossing the glass. You get one clean pane in a slim frame, with as much view and daylight as the opening allows.
In South Florida that pane also has to handle hurricane season. Guardian installs ES Windows impact picture windows: the fixed ES-EL150 and ES-5100 from the Elite line, and the Multimax MX1500. The laminated impact glass is made to hold together if wind-borne debris hits it, so the opening stays closed and the shutters stay in the garage.
Because a picture window does not open, it is often paired with windows that do. Set single hung or casement windows beside it for a breeze, or use it on its own where light and view matter more than airflow.
A picture window gives up ventilation in that one opening. Here is what you get in return.

Our window visualizer starts with the old windows and accordion shutters. Switch the style to picture windows, then flip through all five ES frame colors: Black, Bermuda Bronze, Bone White, Arcadia Silver and Silver Storm.
Every picture window is a fixed unit. What changes is what you put around it.

We have installed impact windows including front door, 2 sliding doors and garage side doors. From the start to the finish the team was great. Answered all my questions, addressed all my concerns and it came out beautiful.
Met with five different companies. Andrew from Guardian was the last one. I told him what I wanted and he didn't even try to upsell me.
As a new homeowner, new impact windows seemed like an overwhelming task. The crew at Guardian made it simple, and stress free! From the initial consult to the installation, their communication was impeccable and work was clean!
Picture windows are the simplest window there is: a frame and one large pane of glass that stays put. That simplicity is the point. With no sash around the glass, a picture window gives you more view and more daylight than an operable window in the same opening, which is why homeowners across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties use them to face pools, canals, golf courses and gardens.
Here, a picture window also has to be a hurricane window. Guardian installs impact picture windows from ES Windows with laminated impact glass, installed to the Florida Building Code, including the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone rules that apply in Miami-Dade and Broward.
A fixed window has no moving sash, so there are no sash seals to wear and fewer places for air to leak. Add Low-E glass and a big picture window lets in daylight while cutting the heat and UV that fade floors and furniture. That helps keep a sunny room comfortable through a South Florida summer. See our energy efficient windows page for more on glass options.
A typical picture window replacement swaps an old fixed window, often one that had to be covered with shutters every storm, for an impact unit in the same opening. We measure each opening at the free in-home estimate and size the window to it, so your picture windows fit your home instead of a stock size. Then we pull the permit, install each window sealed and anchored right, and schedule the final inspection to close the permit.
Choose from five ES frame colors, including a black picture window for a modern look or Bone White for a classic one, add Low-E glass, and match your picture windows with single hung, casement or horizontal roller windows on the rest of the house. No. A picture window is fixed glass, which is how it gets the bigger view and the tight, simple frame. If you want a breeze in that room, we pair it with single hung or casement windows on one or both sides, or put an operable window in that opening instead.
It depends on the size of the opening, the glass you choose (such as Low-E), the frame color and the work the opening needs. Large picture windows cost more than small ones because there is more impact glass and frame. You get an exact price at the free in-home estimate, and financing is available with approved credit. Ask about our current offer.
We measure the opening and size the window to it. Every impact window is tested and approved up to a maximum size, so a very wide opening may be filled with two or more fixed units joined by a mullion. We show you the layout at the estimate.
Yes. Window replacement needs a building permit in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, and Miami-Dade and Broward are in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, which has the strictest product-approval and installation rules. Guardian pulls the permit, installs the windows and schedules the final city inspection.
Yes. Approved impact windows are the hurricane protection for the opening, so there is nothing to put up before a storm. That is a big deal on a large window, which takes the most shutter panels to cover.
Yes, with one rule to keep in mind. The Florida Building Code requires every bedroom to have an emergency escape opening, meaning a window or door that opens to a minimum clear size. A picture window works in a bedroom as long as another window or door in that room meets that rule. We check this at the estimate.
They can. Florida insurers offer wind-mitigation discounts for protected openings, and impact windows count. A wind mitigation inspection documents them for your insurer. How much you save depends on your policy and the rest of the house.
We install impact windows across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
